Ignite is a brand that is focused on creating a more accessible and equal opportunity for people of color to be involved in the publishing industry. With only 29% of children’s books with the main character being a person of color, we have seen growth every year. The big issues lies in who is writing and illustrating these books. With only 9% of authors and 11% of illustrators being people of color, we need to open more ways for them to be able to get involved. Ignite was created to spark that inner passion of reading, writing, and illustrating to tell stories of all kinds but with the representation of the minority communities. Together we can ignite the possibility to change the narrative.
